Welcome to the New Look CDRA Website

Crawley Down Residents Association’s 35th Annual Village Fayre will take place on the Village Green on Saturday 4th September 2010 from 2 to 5pm. This year’s theme is Alice in Wonderland and will also be the theme for the Children’s fancy dress competition. Children should be on the Green at 2pm ready for judging at 2.15pm. The age groups are up to 5 years and 5-10 years. Prizes will be given to the winners in each age group. Events will continue in the evening when the road will be closed outside the Royal Oak pub from 4pm. Access to Bowers Place will be from Station Road. At 7pm the entertainment begins with live music and food will be available. Last year’s Fayre Evening was a great success and we aim to repeat it. Our thanks go in advance to Phil Shoubridge of the Royal Oak for supporting the Village and for allowing us to use his facilities and for providing the barbecue. Every Saturday morning throughout August Prize Draw tickets will be on sale outside Martins with some excellent prizes up for grabs. Buying tickets supports the work of CDRA in the village. A list of prizes will be published for you to see by the time the tickets go on sale. Also during August we shall be delivering programmes to all the houses in the village and some beyond. This year the programmes will have a lucky number on them and a prize will be given for the number drawn. Any extra help we can get in delivering the programmes will be appreciated. . Please contact Christine Bull on 01342 718444 or email team@crawleydownvillagefayre.org.uk if you can help. If you have any queries about the Fayre, its organisation or you wish to offer your help on the day in any capacity send an email to team@crawleydownvillagefayre.org.uk. Or telephone Dave Hook on 01342 717957. You can keep tabs on what is going to be happening on the Village Fayre website www.crawleydownfayre.org.uk. We thank all our sponsors for their support in making our Village Fayre a success every year. Without them we couldn’t do it. Membership of CDRA helps to fund the Village Fayre each year. If you are not a member of CDRA or have not renewed your membership, which is still only £3 per year, you can do so by contacting Colin Ward, the Treasurer on 01342 716945 or send an email to treasurer@cdra.crawleydownvillage.co.uk. Membership application forms are also available from Julie’s Pet Shop or on the CDRA website, www.cdra.crawleydownvillage.co.uk You can also renew or join at the Village Fayre. This year the CDRA has made a donation to the Haven Centre to help buy new chairs and also to the village for a new waste bin on the village green. Both these facilities are for the benefit of all villagers. Sue Bicker

4/5/10 Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of the Crawley Down Residents Association will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 4th May in the Oak Room at the Haven Centre. The meeting is open to all residents although if you are not a member we would ask you to subscribe for £3 per year. We need to recruit new blood for the committee as we have had a few retirements this year due to ill health. If you would like to be involved in Village affaires by coming onto the committee contact the Secretary, Bridget Pestell on 01342 717337 or email bridget_pestell@yahoo.co.uk. Alternatively just turn up at the meeting.

27/2/08 Exhibition
The CDRA exhibition will continue until the end of the Core Strategy consultation period. You can go along and see it on the balcony at the Haven Centre from 9.00AM to 5.00PM on weekdays. We hope that it will explain the implications of development in East Grinstead for Crawley Down and the surrounding villages and roads. CDRA is extremely concerned that traffic will increase by more than double on some routes. In addition there will be a sizeable erosion of the strategic gap between East Grinstead and Crawley Down by the houses and then further erosion with a relief road passing through part of Crawley Down. Noise and pollution will be delivered to us by a full or partial relief road. If there is no relief road, either full or partial, the traffic on our roads will be even worse. Our suggested solution is to put the houses at Crabbet Park which is convenient for the M23 at junction 10A with an upgrade and convenient for employment at Crawley and Gatwick thus reducing commuter congestion and CO2 emissions.
More information is available at the exhibition and from the leaflets which are available there. It is important for you to express your opinion so there are some response forms also available. You need to reply by March 20th. We have placed collection boxes in the gift shop and the butchers or you may also leave them at the Haven Centre Office and we will guarantee to deliver them to MSDC for you. We need to receive them by March 19th.
The developments will affect the next generation but they are not able to respond for themselves so it is up to YOU.

30/9/07 Core Strategy
How do I respond to the core strategy?
  1. First of all you state your name and address at the top of the letter and add the date.
  2. Next you say, "I am writing to you to object to the Core Strategy".
  3. Follow this by saying, "In my opinion the Core Strategy will be detrimental to Crawley Down because..."
  4. Then you give the reasons:
    • The Houses which will be built in Imberhorne Lane will erode the strategic gap between my village and East Grinstead.
    • Not enough employment opportunities can be created in East Grinstead to prevent a large number from commuting to outside the town.
    • The traffic studies have not considered the impact of traffic on Crawley Down.
    • Crawley Down village roads will become rat runs where people try to avoid the congestion which will result from the traffic spilling onto the A264 from the relief road.
    • Crawley Down Village and the Worth Way will be subject to noise and pollution from the relief road.
    • If Route 1B is built it will destroy even more of the strategic gap between the houses and Crawley Down.
    • If route 1B is built there will be infill building in the future.
    • The additional traffic arising from the houses in East Grinstead cannot be absorbed by the proposed junction changes.
  5. You can now say,"I think the problem of finding a site for new Housing could be solved by using the contingency site at Crabbett Park. This is ideally situated for access to the M23 and for the Fastway bus service to Crawley as well as being close to Three Bridges Railway Station. The employment opportunities are much greater in Crawley and at Gatwick Airport than can be created in East Grinstead.
  6. Don't forget to sign your name.
  7. You can send your response by mail or you can pop it into one of the boxes to be found at the Haven Centre or in Flanagan's Butchers. The CDRA will guarantee to deliver your letter to MSDC by the closing date of 20th March 2008. Alternatively you can email your response to ldfconsultation@mid-sussex.gov.uk .

On January 20th 2008 a new period of public consultation will be entered into. You are asked to give your opinions on the houses in East Grinstead and variations on the relief road. CDRA will aim to keep you informed and to explain what this all means. Keep watching here.
