Notes from the CDRA Treasurer

To enable the CDRA to represent the village in the many fields that it does, it requires money. Traditionally, this was raised by Subscriptions collected door to door whilst delivering CDRA Newsletters, or the Village Fayre programme.

This used to raise about £1400 a year. A couple of years ago it was found difficult to recruit enough volunteers to collect these subscriptions. Various other tacks were tried, but the amount raised was greatly reduced.

This year it was decided to try, by advertising, to ask villagers make a Standing Order from their bank, or just to pay a cash donation. This has raised about £250 by Standing Orders, and £150 by cash subscriptions.

Money is also raised by the sterling efforts of Les Archer and his ever hard working sub committee at the Village Fayre each September. The Summer Fete, usually held in June, is a slightly different day and is intended as a great day for the village, but because of the expense of some of the very worthwhile events, usually requires a small subsidy from central funds.

It is interesting to note that we ask the stallholders at both events to pay us 10% of their profits, towards our costs. Assuming that the stallholders have been honest with us, these two events also raise over £6500 for the various organisations that have stalls on the Village Green.

The Village Fayre raised about £1400 for our funds this year.

From the above you can see that our income has been about £1900.

Our expenditure has included £630 for Public Liability Insurance (a legal requirement if we are to carryout our various activities). The purchase of new 6’ tables for use on the Village green, etc., purchased 50/50 with Worth Parish Council, at about £800 cost to us, and donations to the anti-bypass campaign of over £300, and £36 to the Burleigh Woods team. The various other costs bring our total expenditure to about £1900.

So we have just about balanced our budget; however we have committed £1000 towards the CCTV installation by the shops, if it ever comes off; and another £300 towards the anti-bypass cause. Unless we can obtain more subscriptions, we shall have to raid our small reserve.

In the coming year it is intended to try to set up house-to-house collections again, though Standing Order donations will still be very gratefully accepted. If anyone would like to help in this, please contact our Secretary, Bridget Pestell, on 717337.

Please note that the 6’ tables and a couple of Gazebos owned by the CDRA are available for hire to villagers, other than at event times, for a small fee. You collect and return. Contact Les Archer on 716264.

If you wish to support the CDRA please download the .pdf Standing Order Form and return to Colin Ward.
